Surprisingly, the 147.015 repeater site was ORIGINALLY the third home of the 927.5375 repeater, which is now the 927.0125 repeater in July 2011.  Why did this repeater change to 2-meters?  Unfortunately, we were not aware of a 900 MHz wireless Internet hub on this site.  Our repeater was causing them lots of interference.  Since they were paying customers on the tower, we had decided to pursue other options.  The owner of the company asked what it would take to get us to move from 900 MHz so after talking to the tower owner and the Missouri Repeater Council we decided this would be a good spot for the future project the club was discussing - the Southwest Missouri Linked Repeater System (SMLRS).  The 147.015 pair had originally belonged to Bill Chambers, W8KIR-SK (formerly N0MBW).  Bill was a driving force for us to start our own club in Nixa and helped us get the groundwork laid to get a frequency for the 145.270 repeater in Nixa.  Bill had always wanted a wide coverage repeater - Bill always said MBW stood for "Missouri's Best Wireless" and he had a great base station to prove it.  We decided it would be a great tribute to Bill if we could use his old frequency and make it one heck of a repeater.  With help from Joye McElwee, N0OCP, who was Greene County's Emergency Manager, we were able to get permission to install the antenna and feedline for the 147.015 at 400' AGL on the County East TRS tower as well as a 6-meter remote receive site for the 53.270 at 500' AGL.  The wireless Internet company was given two things we needed - about $1500 for the tower work and $1375 for a TX RX 28-37-04A duplexer.  That day, Total Highspeed cut us a check for the duplexer and we shut our 900 MHz repeater off at this site and began looking for a new home for it.  On September 14, 2012, just 2 months after the first SMLRS repeater in Crane was installed, the 147.015 was online!  In September 2024, the club replaced the old Daniel’s MT-2 repeater with a new Motorola SLR-5700.  With the help of Jeff Bertholdi, W0AV, a high-end Texar Audio Prism was installed to make the audio sound phenomenal!  With the new repeater also came a much better receiver.

The 147.015 links into the SMLRS via the Crane 442.150 "South Hub" repeater but can also be moved to the backup "south hub" repeater in Republic - the 442.425.  This site has a unique piece of equipment - the JPS NXU-2A Radio over IP (RoIP) device that provides a special point to point link to the SMLRS.  It is primarily used to link the Conway 145.470 to the SMLRS when needed but is also a Public Safety protocol and would allow anyone with the PC NXU software and proper credentials to connect to, monitor and use the linked system via a PC or dispatch console during an emergency.
