In November 2020, Eric Presser, KD0CEN, officially submitted a request to MoDot to allow us to utilize an un-used DB-224A antenna on their Taum Sauk Mountain site and install a UHF Link antenna to link back to the BenDavis UHF SMLRS Eastern hub. By February 2021, the club had received permission for the installation and fundraising efforts began. Upon a final visit to the site before the installation of the 145.290 repeater, we discovered an unused Sinclair UHF antenna with Andrew 7/8" heliax already on the tower. Since we already had a Motorola Quantar repeater and duplexer available, we asked Bryon Jeffers, K0BSJ, to burn new firmware chips for the repeater to allow it to operate in mixed mode. We scheduled a date for A&W to complete the tower work on February 21, 2022 for the 145.290 and we were able to bring the 442.250 repeater online that same day.
Hint for use: This is a mixed mode repeater. In analog mode, use the PL of 100.0 Hz on encode and decode so that when someone uses it in P25 digital mode it will not open squelch. To use in P25 digital, you simply need a P25 capable radio set for C4FM modulation with a NAC of 3E8 and you are ready to go. No talkgroups are required and no special codes or procedures to use the repeater in analog vs P25 digital. The priority mode is analog so if a person is using it in P25 digital and an analog signal comes in, the repeater will revert to analog mode. This repeater is capable of being linked to the SMLRS should the link system expand further East and a "Far East" hub is required.
